Every year, the foremost publishers and professional associations from the Basque Country participate in the Frankfurt Book Fair, where they carry out their activities at the Basque. Books. stand. The Frankfurter Buchmesse is the oldest and most significant fair in the literary world, especially in terms of the number of publishers represented, around 4000, and the number of visitors, over 200,000.

Bologna Children´s Book Fair

The fair has been held annually in Bologna, Italy, since its creation in 1963. Today it is the world’s leading event in children´s and young adult literature, with 1400 exhibitors and around 30,000 visitors each year. It is the meeting place for professionals involved with creating and publishing books for children and young adults, and a space for buying and selling authors´ rights. Every year, several Basque publishers and professional associations come to Bologna to showcase their latest publications at the Basque. Books. stand and take part in a variety of programme activities. It is also a pivotal event for Euskal Irudigileak (the association of illustrators of the Basque Country), which typically coordinates various activities within the professional programme and facilitates the participation of the most prominent Basque illustrators at the fair.

FIL Guadalajara

Founded in 1987, the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) is the most important cultural event in Latin America. The FIL brings together 3000 activities over nine days and is attended by 750 authors from 49 countries. Numerous publishers from the Basque Country participate in the event, as well as professional associations from the sector, who display their latest products and carry out their activities at the Basque. Books. stand. Moreover, to raise the profile of Basque literary creation at one of the world’s most prestigious international literary events, the Etxepare Basque Institute promotes prominent voices from Basque literature annually at the FIL. This initiative provides professionals and the public with the chance to engage with a literature that has reaped notable successes in recent years. Outstanding authors including Bernardo Atxaga, Kirmen Uribe, Eider Rodriguez, Karmele Jaio, Miren Agur Meabe and Harkaitz Cano have taken part in the Guadalajara International Book Fair in the latest editions of FIL.
