A Coke with You is a novel that blends fact and fiction, featuring renowned poet
Frank O´Hara as the central character. Set against the backdrop of the 1960
MoMA exhibition, ´New Spanish Painting and Sculpture,´ this book explores
O´Hara´s intriguing encounters with Spanish artists and government officials
during that era. The narrative combines actual materials like letters, press
clippings, and poems with a fictionalized account of O´Hara´s life, like, for
instance, his journey to Spain in the spring of 1960. It delves into both O´Hara´s
personal and professional life. With regard to the first, the story is focused on
O’Hara’s sentimental relationship with the dancer Vincent Warren, that was
O’Hara’s lover at that time and the muse that inspired his most famous poems
like Having a Coke with you.
