The Third Carlist War in Spain (1872-1876). Two military supporters of Charles VII, pretender to the throne, buy the services of Vincent, a French playwright and theatre actor who soon finds himself performing a play based on the life of Joan of Arc, twisted to become an advocate of Charles´ cause. However, just like the paedophile Marshal Gille de Rais, Joan of Arc´s besotted champion, Vincent, finds the fire of passion stirring within his own heart, at the worst possible moment.
