Born in Irun, Aiora Zabala, grew up there and in Ziga, and has been awarded scholarships to study in Barcelona, Oxford and Cambridge. She has a degree in Environmental Sciences and a PhD in Ecological Economics. She is a lecturer in Environmental Policy at the Open University and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. She was the editor of the science magazine Nature Sustainability for four years, and has also been a contributor to EITB Irratia and the newspaper Berria. She has written numerous popular articles, in Basque and English, on the environment, sustainability and human sciences, and has participated in several books and research articles. She has undertaken research and work trips to learn about the relationships between nature and humans, including in small communities in Mexico and South Africa.
