Harkaitz Cano (1975) has published novels, comics, non-fiction, short stories and poetry.
A keen explorer of the contours of Basque as a literary form, his writing is shaped by his committed engagement in other forms of art such as theatre, music, cinema, and dance. Translated into a dozen languages, his recent works include the novels Fakirraren ahotsa and Twist, a literary portrait of Luis Buñuel (Kandelikara) and several poetry collections. He has thrice received the Euskadi Prize, and the Spanish National Critics’ Award on four occasions. Some of his stories for children and young adults such us Zer demontre dago aulkien azpian? [What on earth lives under chairs?] and Orkestra lurtarra [The Earthly Orchestra] have been included in the IBBY Honour List. This last work was also made into an animated film by Lotura Films in 2022.
